Times When Tree Removal is Absolutely Needed

There are a lot of reasons why a tree might need to be removed. There could even be a few reasons why you need a tree gone rather than just going with pruning or having trees trimmed. Below are some of the most common reasons why people hire our experienced crew for tree removal in Central Texas.

A Tree is Dead

Anything from age to a lightning strike can kill a tree. If a tree is determined to be dead it's a serious safety concern that needs to be addressed. As time passes there's a greater risk that branches will break off or that it will fall over, possibly leading to property damage or an injury.

A Tree is Diseased

In Central Texas we've experienced instances of disease that have impacted the majestic oak trees and other species. Disease can spread to a tree in many ways. Even incorrect pruning can cause a disease rather than reducing the risk.

A Tree is Infested With Pests

Sometimes it isn't disease that takes a tree down. Pests like termites can make a home in a tree or use it as a source of food to the point the tree is weakened. Removing the damaged tree is important for safety, and it can help prevent the pests from moving on to other trees.

Protect the Foundation of Structures

It could be that the builder didn't quite account for the root structure properly or a tree was planted after the home was built, but either way trees can lead to expensive foundation problems. If a tree is a little too close to a structure we can safely remove the tree without damaging your property.

Clear Space for Construction

Are you building a home? Or maybe you have plans to add a deck? There are a lot of construction projects that require the removal of trees.

Trees Are Blocking Your View

We've also been asked to remove trees in order to open up scenic views from the home. Most homeowners like the privacy that trees provide, but sometimes opening up the canopy can reveal an even better view, particularly in the Hill Country area west of Austin.

Removal Techniques for Trees

There are right ways to remove a tree and horribly wrong ways to remove a tree. Safely removing a tree takes real skill, expertise and strategy. Each situation is different, which is why you want to work with an experienced team that understands the different techniques for removing trees.

Here are some removal techniques we may suggest when a tree needs to be removed.

Wedge Cutting (Felling)

Wedge cutting is a common technique that's used when felling a tree, or cutting it at the base of the trunk. We start by pruning all of the branches up to about head height. A back cut is made into the tree trunk and a wedge is inserted into the cut. The wedge is driven in with an ax to help fell the tree in a certain direction.

Speed Line Cutting

When you have straight tall trees, speed line cutting may be the most efficient method. With speed line cutting the first step is pruning and trimming back all of the branches leaving only the trunk/base of the tree. We then climb up and cut the trunk in sections starting from the top. Instead of climbing the tree with rigging, a cherry picker can be used if the tree isn't safe to climb.

Crane-Assisted Removal

Sometimes a certified arborist will determine climbing or felling a tree with a saw is just too risky. That's when you may need to bring in some heavy equipment for the job. A crane can be rigged up to essentially rip the tree out of the ground while workers stand back at a safe distance. It's a great service for anyone who has rotted or decomposing trees in a large space.

No matter what type of removal is needed, customers know they can trust us to provide professional guidance and tree services that combine quality with affordability that can't be matched by another Austin company!

Tree Removal vs. Tree Trimming

At Tree Green Services we aren't a one-trick pony. We are highly recommended for cutting down trees, but we're also known for our other tree services that improve the health of trees that might be struggling or in the way.

Sometimes tree trimming is enough to get the job done. With tree trimming we can cut back large branches and sections of the tree if it is salvageable. This might be preferable if the tree is healthy but posing a threat to your house, is growing into power lines or it's difficult to navigate around. It may also be possible to heavily trim a tree that is diseased or experiencing a pest infestation. However, which tree service is most appropriate largely comes down to the overall health of the tree.

Not sure if you need extensive tree trimming or tree removal? Give us a call to get a better idea of what's involved with each tree service. We can also provide a professional opinion, or schedule a time to come out to your location to provide an estimate for the work.

Why Tree Removal is Important

Our Austin tree service business is hired to remove trees on a regular basis for one or more of the reasons listed above. Often the need is based strictly on the tree being removed, but there are a few bigger reasons why tree removal is important.

It's a Safety Hazard

Tree health is important for your own health. Trees that are dead, low-hanging or growing toward your home are a general liability. A big tree can cause damage, serious injuries or even death if large branches break off or the tree goes down in a winter storm.

Help You Control the Spread of Disease

When a tree is diseased it isn't an isolated issue. Many diseases can spread to other trees, causing a serious issue across your entire yard that costs much more to correct. Timely removal is absolutely essential for controlling the spread and keeping all of your trees healthy.

Tree services can be a big undertaking for a homeowner, but it's a smart investment. Failing to remove a tree could end up causing far greater problems in the near future. It never hurts to contact a tree service provider to inquire about removal. It's possible that another tree service will work without complete removal.
